Room for improvement

Recently, my dad asked me if I am still exercising. Well, I guess he probably thought that way because he looked at my blog and saw that there was no update. In fact, I have been working out quite a bit, but because things have been quite busy lately, I have chosen rest over sitting in front of the computer to type.

I am really looking forward to the March holidays coming in another 2 weeks' time. Honestly, I am very tired of school and this is only just the beginning of the year; I cringe when I think about how it will only get worse as a slew of school activities takes place in the 2nd and 3rd semesters. Well, I just got to take it one step at a time.... slowly but surely, it will be November again!! Hopefully, emily and myself will be able to go somewhere this March holidays. We are planning to go to Kuching to visit my sister-in-law's family there. Was looking at the web just now.... Kuching seems to be a haven for kayaking and trekking:)

Well, I had my first race of the year last week at the Tribob sprint biathlon. All I can say is that there is definitely plenty of room for improvement! I usually position myself in the 2nd or 3rd row at the swim start, but the start line was already packed with people when I got there, so I positioned myself in the 5th row. Bad move!!! Cos I ended up getting stuck behind some slower swimmers when the horn sounded! It was brutal!! I was really struggling at the start trying to get some space to swim and not get hit on the head by someone else's flailing arms! Plus, I drank quite a bit of seawater as well! :(

My run did not feel good as well:( I just could not get over the tiredness from the swim; it was just lung bursting hard throughout...and I was not even running that fast!:( I felt the lactic everywhere.....in my legs, in my abs....it was just freakin hard!

I was running with this angmoh from the 40-44 category, and I felt ashamed of myself, but at the same time, also inspired by him. Ashamed because I am a good 10 years younger and supposedly fitter, yet I could not outrun him. Inspired because I have another ten years to be as good as or better than him!

On hindsight, I should be not be too over ambitious with regards to my racing performance for now, as I am still on the way back from my injury. It is already an achievement that I am able to race, considering that in September last year, after my trip to Perhentian, I was taking walk breaks after every 25m because my left knee was snapping everytime I landed :( I dun think I am ready to race yet because my vastus lateralis feels tight feels tight despite the short effort, in fact, there is a swelling just above my right knee.....no pain just tightness around the knee area when I try to flex it. Well, if I am not able to get this new thing sorted out fast, I may have to sit out the Tribob du in 2 weeks time:(
